Overview
Our Kenai refinery is located on the Cook Inlet, 60 miles southwest of Anchorage, Alaska, and has a crude oil capacity of 68,000 barrels per calendar day (bpcd).
The refinery processes mainly Alaska domestic crude, domestic crude from North Dakota, along with limited international crude to manufacture distillates, gasoline, heavy fuel oil, asphalt, propane and natural gas liquids and petrochemicals. Product delivery occurs through terminals via pipeline, rail and ships.
Health, Safety and Environment
At MPC, the health and safety of our employees and contractors is of paramount concern. We take steps to ensure an accident-free, incident-free workplace. Due to this commitment, we've implemented safety measures and been recognized as a leader in safety.
At the same time, we are committed to minimizing our impact on the environment. As such, we participate in multiple programs, support several organizations and implement various initiatives that aim to protect our environment and the local communities in which we operate.
Below is a list of recent accolades and accomplishments that we've earned at our Kenai refinery.
- 2024 Distinguished Safety Award – American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers: The association’s highest safety honor, which goes to facilities that demonstrate exemplary safety performance, program innovation and safety leadership.
- 2023 Elite Silver Safety Award – American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers: Recognizes safety performance in the top 10% of the industry.
Community

Notable grants in 2024:
- Kenai Peninsula Borough School District – Caring for the Kenai Program: $50,000 to support a STEM-based environmental and disaster preparedness contest for high school students.
- Boys & Girls Club of Kenai Peninsula – Clubhouse Playground: $50,000 for accessible playground equipment supporting physical, cognitive, social and emotional development.
- Alaska Challenger Learning Center – Kenai Peninsula Simulated Space Missions & Workforce Development Skills: $35,000 to fund scholarships for space mission simulations that reinforce STEM education and expand access to real-world learning experiences.
